Contact lenses are a big help to a lot of people especially those who have eyesight problems. But it wearing contact lenses requires a lot of care especially in cleaning it.
If not handled properly it can lead to serious infections that need treatment.
A horrifying incident happened to an 18-year old college student named Jessica Greaney who had infections when a parasite contaminated her contact lenses. She nearly lost her eyesight because of this incident.
During the first couple of weeks that Jessica felt the irritation, she thought that it was only a minor infection. But her eyelids kept on dropping and her eyesore gets even worse.
She went to the hospital and the doctors said that it was because of Ulcer, but the medications did not do any better.
A parasite known as Acanthamoeba Keratitis was feeding on her eyes. She went through a terrifying sequence of treatment to kill the parasite and stop it from blinding her.
Eventually, Jessica got healed and was discharged from the hospital. But she was asked to continue putting in 22 droplets a day to prevent her eyes from swelling.
Jessica was lucky that the doctors found out about this parasite. She could have lost her eyesight if it was not for them.
